Grand Meyer® MST-92A

The MST-92A snow melting controller, combined with an outdoor air temperature sensor (incld. in the kit) and FSM-12 or WSM-13 moisture sensors, is designed to control outdoor de-icing systems. The MST-92A snow melting controller with an outdoor air(ambient) temperature sensor and FSM-12 moisture sensor is designed for de-icing open areas, such as stairs, ramps, steps, driveways, parking spaces, underpasses, etc. The MST-92A snow melting controller with an outdoor air(ambient) temperature sensor and WSM-13 moisture sensor is designed for roof de-icing on buildings to heat drainage elements such as gutters, water troughs, drip trays, and down-pipes, to clear their surfaces of precipitation and prevent the formation of ice.

Operating principle

When the air(ambient) temperature drops to the settled temperature range, the controller starts to monitor whether there is water on the surface of the FSM-12 or WSM-13 sensor, and then determines whether to start to heat area or not. Due to snow and ice are almost non-conductive, in case if moisture sensor cannot detect ice or snow when the temperature is below zero, there is a built-in heating resistor in moisture sensor to melt ice and snow and turning them into water. The middle digital indicator of the controller will display the water value detected by the moisture sensor. The smaller the value, the more water there is on the surface of the sensor. Snow melting system have «post-heating» function (2h by default) which used to continue to heat area after moisture sensor not detecting water anymore. It helps to melt remnants of ice and snow.

When the moisture sensor is damaged or not connected, it still available to operate system with connected air temperature sensor for emergency de-icing. However, heating will start only when the temperature drops to settled temperature range (for example between +5⁰С … –15⁰С by default settings) and heating cannot automatically stop even if there is no ice or snow on the area.

The sensor is made of a 50 cm piece of self-regulating cable, the heat release of which varies depending on the properties of the environment (temperature, precipitation, melt water and humidity) in which it is located. The current dependence of the sensor, proportional to its heat release, is analyzed by the meteorological station, which, based on the data received, issues a command to turn on / off the heating sections of the heating system.
